Almost nine years ago, our own Chad wrote into Scribes asking if we can have a name for the nameless Hillbilly Kong from Diddy Kong Pilot. The official answer was, "Don't worry about it - he's been killed off now anyway." Like the obsessive nerds we are (some more than others), the question as to what his name was has been a mystery for years. You may want to brace yourselves, because, according to a Rare employee who shall remain anonymous, we finally have a name. Ready? Have you braced yourself? Okay, then. Drumroll, please!

Redneck Kong. "Redneck Kong?", I hear you say. Yes, Redneck Kong. But wait, there's more relating to the former monkey-fighting game on a Monday to Friday plane. Straight from the source:

"The "hillbilly" was known as Redneck Kong, and was a very short-lived idea from the designer of the project. Sometime during that time the screenshot...was obviously captured! The tilt pack idea was dropped, and...they showed the game to Nintendo who didn't want it; reasons given included "there is no point in flying up and down on flat levels". Some employees thought Nintendo was just being prejudiced against the company, as it was around the time of the Microsoft buyout."

And there you have it. Yes, it probably wasn't worth waiting as long as we did, but at least we finally have closure on the deceased Kong that was literally too dumb to live. May he finally rest.
